India Secures Approval
for Second Hydropower
Project in Nepal
Nepal on Sunday chose to permit India's Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Restricted to foster a second
hydropower project in the country. At present SJVN is fostering a 900-MW Arun - III hydroelectric
undertaking, a run-of-stream situated on the Arun Waterway in Eastern Nepal, planned to be finished in
2024.
A gathering of the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) led by State head Pushpa Kamal Dahal otherwise known
as Prachanda endorsed the draft project improvement understanding (PDA) to be endorsed with India's
state-possessed SJVN to foster the 669-megawatt (MW) Lower Arun Hydropower project in eastern
Nepal, an authority proclamation said.
The improvement comes days before Top state leader Prachanda's visit to India beginning Wednesday.
The draft should be embraced by the Board of Clergymen before it gets carried out.
The past gathering of the IBN had supported Rs 92.68 billion speculation for the advancement of the
undertaking.
The development of this 669-MW transformative project will prove to be a milestone for the socio-
economic development of the country, according to the statement by the IBN.
The SJVN has formed a local company, Lower Arun Power Development Company, in Nepal.
